The jungleking ranges from Manipur to southern Myanmar and Indochina. A related species, the tufted jungleking (Thauria aliris Fruhstorfer, 1902) occurs in Asia. Amathusiini is a tribe of the nymphalid butterfly subfamily Morphinae. They are large butterflies. They are sometimes treated as a distinct subfamily Amathusiinae or family Amathusiidae. The Morphinae are a subfamily of Nymphalidae butterflies that includes the morphos, the owl butterflies, and related lineages. It is either considered a sister group of the Satyrinae, or disassembled and included therein.
